Mayflower Day Ladies Wrap

By: Faith Piccolo

Mayflower Day Ladies had another banner year.  We picked up eleven new members, which brings our number up to 85. But there’s always room for more.

We had a social season filled with festive parties, luncheons, fun and games….and cake.

We started our season with the opening luncheon in September; then there was a Hallowe’en party at the end of October; we celebrated in December with a Christmas luncheon and sing-a-long led by Susan Crooks. We sat around our electronic TV fireplace and had a grand old time.

In March we celebrated St. Patrick, with the wearing of the green, pizza, Irish Coffee, and of course cake.

In between all the social events we found time to curl twice a week, and after our games we lounged in the Myers Room, enjoying coffee/tea, sweets and sometimes nutritional snacks, or whatever was on offer from whoever was on coffee duty. You might detect a theme in our calendar of events…just about every event includes food. Maybe that’s what’s bringing in all those new members.

We also took part in the Metro Bonspiel in November, along with teams from Halifax Curling Club and Dartmouth Curling Club.  We didn’t win the big prizes, but we did make a respectable showing.

Congratulations to the first 200 Club Winners of 2019!  The Board, Staff, and Members THANK YOU for your generous support of the Mayflower Curling Club!  Your winnings will be available beginning Wednesday PM from the office.

Club Information

Founded in 1905, the Mayflower Curling Club is a landmark in Halifax's rich history. In 1912 the ice shed was used as a morgue for victims of the infamous Titanic sinking, and just five years later the club was destroyed in the devastating Halifax explosion. The Mayflower, which houses six sheets of ice for leagues of all levels, is one of the most well-known clubs in Canada. We embrace all levels of curling from beginners to competitive and we hope to see you on the ice soon.
