Protocol for play - Coronavirus Disease 2019 [COVID-19]

12 March 2020

Re:     Protocol for play - Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

While there likely is a low risk of contracting COVID-19 in Halifax at the moment, I wanted to update you on the steps Mayflower is taking to reduce that risk.

  1. While shaking hands before and after a game is a curling tradition, we would encourage another form of acknowledgement to your opposition.
  2. We are sourcing Lysol type wipes to place at the home end of the ice shed.  Each team should clean their rock handles prior to the game (one sheet of the wipes is sufficient for one set of rocks).
  3. We are trying to obtain more hand sanitizers to place around the club.
  4. Bar and club staff have been instructed to frequently clean their hands and surfaces that are likely to be touched to reduce the spread of germs.

Finally, if you are feeling unwell, please consider staying home and finding a spare for your game. For additional information, please visit https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/.

Club Information

Founded in 1905, the Mayflower Curling Club is a landmark in Halifax's rich history. In 1912 the ice shed was used as a morgue for victims of the infamous Titanic sinking, and just five years later the club was destroyed in the devastating Halifax explosion. The Mayflower, which houses six sheets of ice for leagues of all levels, is one of the most well-known clubs in Canada. We embrace all levels of curling from beginners to competitive and we hope to see you on the ice soon.
