This season, the Mayflower Curling Club is proud to feature our competitive curlers who are working towards representing Nova Scotia at the 2016 Scott Tournament of Hearts and the Tim Horton’s Brier. Each month, our eNewsletter will feature a competitive curler from our club in the Competitive Player Profile. This month the club is honoured to feature one of Nova Scotia’s top second stones, Scott Saccary. Scott’s roots are from Waverly, Nova Scotia. He has been playing competitively for 18 years and is currently throwing second stones for Team Jamie Murphy from the Mayflower Curling Club.
At a young age, Scott’s first interest was in hockey not curling. "Initially, I wanted nothing to do with curling. All I wanted to do was play hockey but my parents convinced me to try the junior program. After the second try, I never looked back."
After curling for a couple of years, Scott knew he wanted to play competitively. During the Nova Scotia Canada Winter Games trials, Scott was brought in as fifth for his brother Kevin’s team which his father John coached. "They needed a fifth so they brought me on after only curling for a year or two," said Scott.
Scott contributes his curling success through the influential role of his father. "He was my coach all through juniors. He was always challenging us to focus on building a solid delivery and the importance of mental toughness," reflects Scott.
The season’s Scott and his teammates are working towards representing Nova Scotia at the 2016 Brier in Ottawa, Ontario.
